The ruling party, BJP, has appointed Mr. Shankar Lalwani as its Member of Parliament (MP) candidate from the Indore Lok Sabha seat !! Mr. Lalwani would be contesting Lok Sabha elections from Indore in place of Lok Sabha speaker Ms. Sumitra Mahajan, who is the sitting MP from our city !! Ms. Mahajan, popularly known as 'Taai', has been representing Indore in the Lok Sabha since 1989, yes since last 30 years !! And the BJP has been consistently winning from Indore, since the last eight Lok Sabha elections, no kidding !!
This time, since Ms. Mahajan has crossed 75 years of age - BJP's internal age bar for active politicians - she decided to not contest !! It is also said that BJP National Secretary General Mr. Kailash Vijayvargiya also did not want to contest the general elections !! In Mr. Lalwani, the voters of Indore city will see a new face for the Member of Parliament (MP) candidate from BJP, and possibly a new MP, after 30 years !!
Mr. Shankar Lalwani, Chairman of the Indore Development Authority, Convener of the Lok Sanskruti Manch, and President of the All India Sindhi Association, has held many positions in BJP Indore and in various other governmental & social organisations !! He has been the President of the Indore unit of BJP, Councillor (Paarshad) of the Indore City, and President of the Municipal Committee of Indore Municipal Corporation, among others !!
Mr. Lalwani was also instrumental in getting one of the world records that the Indore city holds !! A signature campaign - MERAA BHAARAT, MERAA ABHIMAAN - was launched to thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the 10% reservation for "economically backward" sections in the general/upper caste category, in January 2019 !! More than one lakh residents of Indore city had signed the note to Mr. Modi !! These signatures were presented to PM Modi at the Indore airport, in the form of a book !! This event has been included in the World Records !! The organiser, Mr. Lalwani, also received the certificate from the World Book of Records !!

The Lok Sabha elections, known as the General Elections, would be conducted all over the country, covering all its 543 constituencies !! The General Elections would be held for Lok Sabha and also for the Legislative Assemblies in Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha & Sikkim, this year !!
There would be 7 phases of the General Elections, with the first phase beginning elections on April 11, 2019, and the last phase on May 19, 2019 !! Date of counting for all the phases is May 23, 2019 !! Indore, and its seven adjoining constituencies, would go to vote in phase 7 - on MAY 19, 2019 !!
